It’s kind of sad that girls, females in the industry are always asked about what they think about other girls. That never really happens when you do interviews with guys. You know, guys don’t— male bands don’t get those kinds of questions as much as women do, which I think is— it’s kind of irritating.
I think there’s room for everyone, you know. I think there’s no competition, and it’s a really nice pop environment at the moment where all these different kinds of female artists are doing their thing in their own way. You have the bigger artists like Rihanna and Lady Gaga, but then you also have M.I.A. and La Roux and me. So it’s good. You have all that diversity that wasn’t around five, ten years ago.
