I make my decisions based on trying to reach people emotionally. But commercially, sales-wise? No.
I think pop music is whatever touches a big group of people in the present time. Music that makes people feel like “this relates to me right now”, that isn’t stuck in the past, and that isn’t all about reinventing stuff either. Erhm, maybe it does, once in a while. To me, it’s not an art form. It’s entertainment, and kind of like handling life, hopefully in a way that makes you feel something. Yeah so, I make pop music.
I can tell you what I get inspired by and what I think is interesting, but then what it ends up being is not up to me. It’s up to journalists and fans to define what that is. But I like pop melodies, I like beautiful songs, I like dance music, I like club culture, and I’ve always been interested in outside culture. So those are the things that I kind of always come back to.
